A MUSIC graduate decided the industry “wasn’t for me” and instead went to work alongside some of the world’s best chefs at one of Europe’s most prestigious hotels.

Lizzie Roff, from Maghull, found herself “unhappy” after getting her degree from Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) in 2019, when she went to work in distribution.

The 30-year-old told the Advertiser: “I did a music degree at LIPA. After that I went to work in distribution for a bit, and then I realised it wasn’t making me happy.

“I'd always wanted to learn how to make French pastries, but it never felt like it was possible. I love music, but I just found that the reality of working in that industry wasn’t what I wanted to be.

“During lockdown I started teaching myself the pastry things I'd wanted to learn.”

Having acquired a taste for making pastries, Lizzie decided to test her skills in a professional setting. In 2021, she joined the team of Rough Handmade on the Albert Dock, Liverpool.

She said: “I went to work at Rough Handmade and I just loved it I was doing something very creative that made people happy, and it made me happy to do that.”

In 2022, Lizzie “decided to go for it” and enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.
