Rain, hailstorm batter Capital

Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, along with several other areas, Tuesday evening, bringing temporary respite from soaring temperatures while causing brief disruptions in parts of the city.
Several localities in the Capital also witnessed hailstorms, intensifying the sudden spell of inclement weather. Bhubaneswar recorded 17.6 mm of rainfall during the downpour.
Earlier in the day, the Regional Meteorological Centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a nowcast warning forecasting light to moderate thunderstorms with lightning and light rainfall in several districts of Odisha. The advisory included Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, and extended to Puri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur.
