India's HDB Financial Services jumped more than 13% in its trading debut Wednesday, notching the non-bank lender a valuation of $8.2 billion at day's high, as investors bet on long-term growth prospects in the world’s most populous country.
HDB's $1.5 billion IPO is the largest in India this year so far and also the biggest ever by a non-bank lender. The stock rose to as much as 849.85 rupees in Mumbai compared with its offer price of 740 rupees. The shares were last trading at 833.55 rupees while India’s benchmark Nifty 50 index was marginally down.
