THE LANDMARKS, CHARITIES AND BUSINESSES THAT FEATURE ON NOTTINGHAM MONOPOLY GAME

- By LYNETTE PINCHESS lynette.pinchess@reachplc.com @LynettePinchess

A NOTTINGHAM version of the world’s most famous board game is hitting the shops just in time for Christmas.

The new version of Monopoly comes 24 years after the city first “passed go”.

Old Market Square has dethroned Nottingham Castle as “The Mayfair of Nottingham”, the most expensive square on the board. In another major change, Nottingham Forest's City Ground moves up the board to a pricier spot than rivals Notts County.

The official launch is due to take place in Victoria Centre today, complete with a giant version of the game and Mr Monopoly himself.

The board is themed in sets from heritage to sport, shopping to business and education to travel to reflect the vibrancy of the city. More than 30 Nottingham landmarks and organisations feature on the board, including the Robin Hood statue, Goose Fair, Victoria Centre, Nottingham Express Transit (NET), The Lace Market, Nottingham Castle, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem and even Nottinghamshire Live.

The Chance and Community Chest cards are customised too. One fines players for failing to swerve a pothole on Mansfield Road, whilst another card gifts players Monopoly money to buy a season ticket to watch Nottingham Forest.
