Warning over benefits scam text messages

PENSIONERS and other vulnerable residents are being targeted by conmen posing as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Nottinghamshire County Council has warned.

The council said it had been alerted to fraudsters who are trying to scam Household Support Fund and Winter Fuel Payment recipients.
Victims are being sent messages claiming to be from the DWP, which ask benefit claimants to apply for payments using a malicious link, the council explained.
