Warning as schoolboy targeted by 'sextortion' scammers on TikTok

POLICE have issued a warning about 'sextortion' scams after a schoolboy was targeted on TikTok.

The secondary school-aged boy, from north Nottinghamshire, sent an indecent picture of himself to an unknown person who had initially contacted him through the social media app.

He then received pictures of a topless woman and was then threatened with his picture being forwarded if he didn't send $100 to the person behind the scam account.

The boy was contacted on his phone, WhatsApp and Snapchat and he reported the incident to the police.

Following the report, the boy was spoken to by officers and given advice on how to stay safe online.

DCI Chris Berryman said: "This boy is very young and perhaps didn't understand what he was getting himself into.
