MUSICIAN AND FIGHTER'S DREAM IS TO REPRESENT THE CITY AND BE A ROLE MODEL
A GRIME artist turned professional boxer says he could represent the city on a global scale - but needs more support.
Omari Grant, from Radford, is known under various guises such as “Kriptik” and “Praying Mantis” - depending on which line of work you know him from.
The 37-year-old made a name for himself in the music scene, having come from a family of performers and was always passionate about music.
He quickly rose up the local grime ranks in the 2000s as Kriptik, playing shows around the city and selling CDs.
Yet, after taking part in a charity boxing event in 2015, he realised he had another passion one he now wants to take to the next level.
After the event, Omari began training and turned professional two years later.
Today, he is a seven-time champion and has never lost a fight - but after almost ten years in super lightweight and lightweight boxing, he’s now ready to take the biggest jump in his career.
However, he says he needs more support to grow and become recognised in the city and beyond.
