UK's oldest man gets a star surprise for VE Day

THE UK's oldest man had a surprise celebrity visitor at a special VE Day party thrown in his honour.

The celebration at an Ilkeston care home in honour of Donald Rose was filmed for the BBC's The One Show - likely making him the show's oldest-ever guest.

The VE Day Afternoon Tea Concert for ex-Desert Rat Donald - complete with flag waving, cake and wartime songs - was held at the care home where the 110-year-old now lives.

The event at Canal Vue Care Home, Ilkeston, was attended by the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Kate Fennelly and TV comedian Al Murray.
