SCHOOL TEACHER KNOCKED CYCLIST OFF HIS BIKE AS HE DROVE TO WORK

- By MARTIN NAYLOR

A SCHOOL teacher knocked a fitness-loving cyclist off his bike after colliding with him as they were both travelling to work.

Steven Mayfield’s own dashcam footage shows him following an Audi through Shelford village before accelerating and overtaking it at speed, pulling in and hitting the victim as he rides up Shelford Hill.

On the clip, the 41-year-old, of Gedling, turns around and drives back to the scene where the Audi driver can be seen running to the cyclist's aid.

He suffered broken bones, spent two days in hospital and has not got back on his bike to cycle that route to work since, prosecutor Raglan Ashton told Nottingham Crown Court.

Handing the Radcliffe-on-Trent Junior School teacher an 18-month community order, Judge Michael Auty KC said: “You could see that the sun was low in the sky and that (the victim) had reflective equipment and clothing on.
