Repairs to tower block over 'high risk' defects

REPAIRS to a prominent Nottingham apartment block are being planned after “high risk” construction defects were revealed.

Marco Island, the 13-storey residential block on Huntingdon Street in Nottingham city centre, has been covered in flammable cladding for years, putting hundreds of residents at risk.

Combustible materials were found in the panels, metal cladding, and balcony decking of the 39.9m, 366-unit tower, according to planning documents.

Simon Hall, managing director of Marco Island's management company Wildheart, said the process had been “inevitably protracted”, with repair plans being submitted - eight years after the deadly Grenfell Tower fire brought the risks of risky cladding to the fore - due to the complexity and size of the project.
