New housing scheme a 'once in a generation opportunity' for golf club

A NEW 800-home housing estate on the edge of Mansfield could be a “once-in-a-generation opportunity”, according to a neighbouring golf club.

The Welbeck Estate recently submitted plans to Mansfield District Council for the huge development on the former Mansfield Colliery to the east of Jubilee Way, along with new employment and shopping zones, plus infrastructure improvements.

The proposed scheme, which has been in the works for around a decade, would also provide Mansfield Rugby Club with a new pitch, training area and car park, improve access to Sherwood Forest Golf Club, and create space for a new primary school if Nottinghamshire County Council decides one is needed.

The formal planning submission, incorporating land formerly used as Mansfield Golf Course, has been welcomed by Sherwood Forest Golf Club, which currently owns part of the site.
