NO LINK TO CLUB - SO HOW DID IT GET ITS UNUSUAL NAME?

- By LYNETTE PINCHESS

THERE'S a Nottingham Forest bar which you'd think would be decked out with red and white scarfs and photos of players past and present.

But you'd be wrong.

It’s nearly 900 miles away in Italy and doesn’t have any links to our city's Premier League club.

But that doesn’t stop Reds fans gifting the owner shirts and other memorabilia.

The popular Milan haunt specialises in cocktails and is heaving with both locals and tourists.

Because of the name it’s an attraction for Nottingham folk (Reds fans, or not) to visit. Owner Dario Comini is Milan’s most revered bartender, while the bar in Porta Monforte is a regular on the World’s 50 Best Bars list for its 37-page menu with 14 euro drinks that are nothing like you'd find in the Slug and Lettuce in Old Market Square.

Gin sour infused with red ants with crunch of crickets and chlorophyll is the description of one, while another is served in a hot air balloon.

Others are named after American TV series, such as Columbo, Dexter and True Blood.

Eve Smallman, from Sneinton, recently dropped in and found that the bar really comes alive at night. Comparing it to an "Aladdin's Cave", she said: "I'd seen photos on social media but they really didn't showcase what the bar is actually like. Inside it’s a tropical paradise, with leafy plants, sumptuous seats, and cosy lighting not a Forest flag in sight
