THE walls are finally coming down at a derelict former cinema that has stood empty for more than a decade.

Although scaffolding and sheets shield the front of the old Galaxy Cinema, in Derby Road, Long Eaton, the building is gradually being razed to the ground from the back.

Unlike some of the seats from abandoned cinemas, the ones here couldn’t be salvaged and put to a new use.

Stephen Fisher, of Total Reclaims Demolition, said: "As the building had been vacant for many years it’s been subject to widespread vandalism.

"I've also been informed that a large proportion of the building was stripped and used for a large-scale cannabis farm that was discovered by the police several years ago.

"Disappointingly, none of the interior was salvageable.
