SONIA WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH ON THE M1 THAT KILLED HER HUSBAND MARK. SHE WOKE UP IN INTENSIVE CARE

SONIA Meakin can remember what she was thinking seconds before the crash that killed her husband Mark.

“I remember in my head saying to my mum, who passed away 17 years ago, that we are going to probably die,” she said. “But please, save one of us or both of us; someone needs to be here for my kids and my grandkids.

“Then it just went jet black, I didn’t see, hear or feel anything.”

Sonia, from Derby, was chatting to her husband as he drove on the M1 on July 11, when she spotted he had blacked out.

Their car swerved in and out of traffic before the devastating crash. She woke up to find Mark lying on the floor.

The emergency services worked on him for 45 minutes, but he could not be saved.

Describing the moments before the crash, Sonia, 56, said: “Mark just said to me, it’s light now.

“I didn’t really take any notice of it.

“Then he said it again, and then said I’m going to black out. I didn’t even look at him for the first seconds. It just didn’t register what he said.
