Notts snack firm offering some quirky new flavours
WHO doesn’t like a bag of peanuts down the local with their pint? A Nottinghamshire company is competing with the bigs boys KP and Nobby’s Nuts to get their unusually flavoured peanuts stocked in more pubs.
SpiceBytz can be found in 25 locations in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Lancashire. Five flavours have been created by the company, based in Balderton near Newark.
One flavour, believed to be unique, is Green Salt. Instead of conventional salt, they are given a tangy twist using samphire, a green marsh vegetable with a salty taste. As a result the sodium content is lower than usual.
Neal Price, who runs the company with Richard Drinkwater and Josh Grant, said: “We chose samphire because all salted nuts are the same. We wanted to find something a little different and after researching salts we found green salt made out of samphire. It’s a healthy alternative that has approximately 50% less sodium than salt and adds a nice umami hit”
