Hospital ward closure worries staff, sparking fears over patient safety

A HOSPITAL ward will close in the coming weeks as bosses grapple with mounting winter pressures.

The Chatsworth Ward, which cares for patients medically safe to be discharged at Mansfield Community Hospital, will shut by early January, Sherwood Forest Hospitals (SFH) said.

The trust, which also runs King's Mill Hospital and Newark Hospital, said it had bought 15 beds at a nearby care home which would "provide the same standard of care", while allowing staff to care for patients "who need to be in our hospitals most this winter".

The move has sparked concern among some staff, with one telling the Post that they were worried about patient safety.
