Hi-tech plans for former colliery site

PLANS for up to 400 homes and desperately-needed tech infrastructure could create hundreds of jobs on the edge of a village.

Hundreds of homes and a new data centre - which would support important online and Al services - are being planned on part of the former Rufford Colliery near the village of Rainworth.

Developer Harworth Group has submitted an outline planning application to Newark and Sherwood District Council to transform the old pit yard.

The 34-hectare site would be reached using Rufford Colliery Lane, which connects the former colliery to the A617 Rainworth Bypass, according to planning documents.

Planners for the developer said the 26,500 sq m data centre would be an "exciting opportunity" for the area, as it would be the first facility of its kind in the Newark and Sherwood district.
