CAFE'S FOCUS ON SIMPLE CLASSICS, DONE WELL

- By GEORGE PALMER-SOADY

WITH more cafes, bars and restaurants popping up across the county, there is now more choice than ever. When looking for a bite to eat, the options range from Thai tomahawk steaks.

This is no bad thing and it’s great that there’s something to cater for everyone's taste buds.

Yet sometimes you just can’t beat a simple classic, done well. That’s what Forty Four Cosy Cafe, in Mapperley, prides itself on - and perhaps it's the reason why the café is so popular.

There’s still clearly an appetite for fresh, homely meals such as hot cobs and full English breakfasts.

They are among the favourites at the cafe located on the corner of Porchester Road and Norman Road, which is now one of four contenders in our Notts Bites awards for best café. Over the next few weeks, we'll be speaking to each of the finalists, giving them the chance to pitch why they should win your vote, and we'll be featuring the contenders here in the Post and online at Nottinghamshire Live.

Owner Claire Hurst has run the business, previously called Emma's Sandwich Bar, for around two-and-a-half years. The café is a top spot for those in the know, many of whom have spotted it as they drive down the busy Porchester Road.
