England flag painted on Goose Fair mascot 'a step too far'

ENGLAND flags have been sweeping Nottinghamshire, appearing on lamp posts, roundabouts, bridges, zebra crossings and outside homes.

Dozens of St George's and Union Flags have gone up as part of Operation Raise the Colours in England's cities, towns, and villages. But it seems supporters have ruffled a few feathers by daubing the patron saint's red cross on Goosey, the iconic Nottingham Goose Fair mascot.

The cross appeared just days after she appeared at her usual spot, on the Mansfield Road roundabout near The Forest Recreation Ground.

Pranksters have previously dressed up Goosey in a jumper in 2018 and a face mask during the pandemic in 2020, while in 2023 a golden egg was laid. But the latest move has been called "a step too far."
