Dangerously low levels of water after driest spring on record

WATER levels in a reservoir that supplies Nottinghamshire have been described as “dangerously low” by the Environment Agency, with two others marked as “below normal”.

Storage at Derwent Valley in Derbyshire is at 66%. This incorporates the Howden, Derwent and Ladybower reservoirs, which have levels at 49.4%, 55.7% and 71.9% respectively.

In addition, both Carsington and Ogston (86%) and Dove Group - which includes Foremark (93.2%) and Staunton Harold (90.7%) - were marked as “below normal”.

Storage across England as a whole stood at 77% at the end of May, down from 84% at the end of April and the lowest on record for the time of year, although some sites have reported normal or above normal levels.
