Crashes and vandalism force shake-up of trams timetable

EVERY 10 MINUTES RATHER THAN EVERY SEVEN MINUTES AT PEAK TIMES FROM TODAY

- By OLIVER PRIDMORE

NOTTINGHAM'S tram timetable is changing because so many of the vehicles have been badly damaged in crashes or due to vandalism over recent weeks.

The city's tram operator says several vehicles in its fleet are undergoing repairs and that its services will run less often as a result.

NET says the number of crashes, as well as incidents of vandalism, mean its trams will run every 10 minutes rather than every seven minutes at peak times.

The change starts today and is set to last for four weeks, but NET says this is "subject to change".

Incidents in recent weeks include a collision with a car in The Meadows that tore a large chunk off the front of a tram.

Sarah Turner, NET's managing director, said: "A number of our trams have been damaged in recent weeks due to collisions, so while we get them assessed and fixed, we need to take them off the network.
