Council votes for temporary extension for traveller site

UNANIMOUS VOTE - BUT NO GREEN LIGHT FOR PERMANENT PERMISSION

A COUNCIL has extended the temporary status of a caravan park in Newark to allow it to continue operating as a gypsy and traveller site.

The land, at Park View Caravan Park, in Tolney Lane, spans about 0.6 hectares - equivalent to the size of a football pitch.

It is currently used as a temporary site for up to 15 caravans.

Applicants D Bower and W Bower submitted plans to make it permanent in January.

However, both the Environment Agency and Newark Town Council objected, saying there were flood risks.

But Newark and Sherwood District Council officers recommended extending the site's temporary status instead of granting it permanent approval when the application was discussed at a planning committee meeting on Thursday.
