Cold callers out to trick people in repairs scam

COUNCIL tenants are being warned about cold callers targeting people with outstanding repairs.

They pose as council workers and others to encourage people to sign legal documents.

One Ashfield resident, who asked not to be identified, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that two people turned up on her doorstep.

One woman showed up at her door on June 10, claiming to be a council worker sent to “speed up repair requests” in council properties.

A few hours later, another woman who claimed to be from a solicitors’ firm, asked her to sign a contract saying the firm planned to “sue the council over poor repairs”.
