BUSINESS CENTRE IN RUINOUS STATE AFTER HOUSING PLANS CAME TO NOTHING
LOOMING over one of Nottingham's tram stops is a ruined building that would not be out of place in a post-apocalyptic zombie TV series.
But this structure sits in the middle of the busy city suburb of Basford, not a nightmarish and sparsely populated wasteland.
The empty building in Church Street was built in the 2000s, but never became what its developers intended it to be. Nearly two decades later the structure is derelict, discoloured and vandalised to the point it seemingly has no intact windows left.
The building's owner, a doctor, has repeatedly stated he intends to transform the eyesore.
However, this has never come to pass despite growing concern over the offputting look and dubious safety of the old centre. So what is going on and why?
The four-storey Irwin Business Centre was constructed for office use in 2008, but was never used. Despite the go-ahead for it to be converted into 24 apartments in 2020, the site remains in a ruinous state as the plans were never implemented.
