Aussie Ashes hero Stackpole dies at 84

CRICKET Australian cricketer Keith Stackpole died on Tuesday at the age of 84, Cricket Australia said.

A dynamic and influential figure in Australian cricket throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, Stackpole represented Australia in 43 Tests between 1966 and 1974.

In that time, he amassed 2,807 runs at an average of 37.42, including seven centuries.

A right-handed batsman and leg-spin bowler, he played a pivotal role in the early years of ODI cricket.

He was part of Australia's squad for the inaugural ODI in 1971.
