Action promised over town shopkeepers' concern about gangs

POLICE say they have "taken action" after shopkeepers in a Derbyshire town called for change after being subjected to worrying incidents with troublemakers.

Barnaby Nockolds, who owns the shop Barn Dawg in the centre of Long Eaton, spoke out after an incident left him concerned for his safety, as well as that of his customers.

A gang threatened him, leading him to lock himself and his customer inside the store, before the troublemakers returned and shouted abuse at him, threatening to stab him.

Barnaby then called the police, who made the group leave the area, but said they had no powers to permanently keep them from causing trouble at his shop or arrest them based on what happened.
