GOOSE FAIR HAS A HUGE SELECTION ON OFFER
GOOSE Fair fun-seekers who are hungry for more than the thrills and spills of being catapulted into the air will not be disappointed. Visitors who get their kicks at one Europe's biggest travelling funfair from the food and drink have an impressive variety to choose from.
The ten-day event, which started on Friday, is a dazzling whirlwind of lights, pumping music, screams and the aroma of fried onions filling the air over the Forest Recreation Ground. Crowds will find all the classic funfair food of burgers, hot dogs, doughnuts and burgers and the old favourites that make the Nottingham fair unique - mushy peas with mint sauce and the novelty cocks on sticks.
For fairgoers craving something comforting and warm, a jacket potato stall has spuds with any two fillings (from beans, cheese, sweetcorn, tuna, curry sauce, chilli and bolognese) for £6. Further along the foodie strip there's Yorkshire pudding wraps with chicken, beef or pork, priced £11-£12, and even a full roast, starting at £13.
The fair has become a showcase for a wide variety of street food flavours from across the world...shawarma and falafel, Mexican, Asian noodles, pizza, chicken katsu curry, German sausages, Jamaican dumplings and Greek gyros.
Sweet-toothed fans won't be disappointed with a vast array of sugary treats to keep you pumped even if you don’t step on a rollercoaster. The hardest part is deciding between waffles, doughnuts, crepes, churros, ice cream, brandy snaps, candyfloss and fudge.
Some visitors, like Jeremy Putman (aka blogger Jeremy's Food Tour), have an annual routine. “I get a cock-on-a-stick every year, the traditional mushy peas and doughnuts from the scout hut,” he said.
Here’s our guide with just a taster of what's on offer - and how much you can expect to pay. The fair runs until Sunday.
