A appeal has been launched to find the family who turned the ashes of their parents into a message-in-a-bottle, which washed up on a beach in North Devon.

- by TRISTAM CORK

The man who found it sent it on its way again after reading a message asking people to chart its progress using hashtags to tell the family where it was found.

But where the bottle came from and who the family are is still something of a mystery, as efforts to find them have so far been in vain. The bottle was found on Woolacombe Beach north Devon on November 9 by Mike Nicholls, who lives nearby.

He said: “The bottle really stood out on the sand, the tide had gone out and it was the only thing on the beach.

“I could see there was something inside the bottle so picked it up to check it out,’ he added.

Inside, Mike found a bag containing ashes and a note, which read: “Our parents are reunited inside this bottle and are off on one last adventure, hopefully around the world.
