Makkah, Saudi Arabia, is preparing to welcome one of its most ambitious urban developments to date: King Salman Gate, an integrated, mixed-use destination adjacent to AlMasjid AlHaram.

It is designed to meet the needs of millions of pilgrims, Umrah performers, and visitors who journey to the holy city each year, including the growing number of visitors from India.

In 2024 alone, around 140,000 Indian Muslims performed Hajj. For 2025, India’s official Hajj quota was set at 175,025 pilgrims, signalling a further expansion in capacity. Beyond Hajj, Umrah travel shows a similar growth trajectory, with India ranking as the third-largest source market in 2023, accounting for around 1.8 million Indian pilgrims. The numbers are expected to rise significantly in the coming years. This rapid growth underscores the need for sustainable investments in world-class infrastructure and services that can accommodate rising demand while preserving Makkah's architectural and cultural heritage.
