Vaishnaw says it won't lead to privatisation

LS passes Railways Amendment Bill

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday dismissed claims that the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024, would lead to the privatisation of the national carrier, accusing some Opposition members of spreading a "fake narrative" about the legislation.

The Lok Sabha passed the Bill by a voice vote after a debate that had been delayed due to frequent disruptions in proceedings last week. The Bill seeks to enhance the functioning of the Railway Board and introduce an independent regulator to oversee key operations, including fare determination.

Responding to the debate on the Bill, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw targeted the opposition, saying their "fake narrative" regarding railways will fall flat just like the one about the Constitution failed.
