PM Modi speaks to CFI Gavai, says attack on him angered every Indian
In a startling breach of courtroom decorum, a 71-year-old lawyer allegedly attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B R Gavai during proceedings at the Supreme Court on Monday. The incident occurred as a bench, comprising CJI Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, was hearing the mentioning of cases.
Eyewitnesses said the lawyer, later identified as Rakesh Kishore, a Mayur Vihar resident, approached the dais, removed his shoe, and attempted to hurl it towards the judges. Security personnel present in the courtroom intervened immediately, preventing the attack, and swiftly escorted Kishore out of the premises. As he was being removed, he reportedly shouted, "Sanatan ka apman nahi sahenge" (will not tolerate insults to Sanatan Dharma).
CJI Gavai, displaying composure during the incident, addressed the lawyers present, saying, "Don't get distracted by all this. I am not distracted.
These things do not affect me," before continuing with court proceedings.
