Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has described his film Amar Singh Chamkila—recently nominated at the International Emmy Awards—as less of a logical career choice and more of an emotional calling.
The film, which released in 2024 with Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles, traces the meteoric rise and tragic end of Punjab’s most celebrated folk musician of the 1980s, Amar Singh Chamkila.
