A heated exchange erupted in the Lok Sabha on Monday between the treasury benches and the Opposition after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi claimed that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was sent to the inauguration of Donald Trump as US President to secure an invitation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister was seated in the House when Gandhi's remark triggered loud protests from BJP MPs. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly objected to Gandhi's statement, accusing him of making unsubstantiated claims regarding the country's foreign policy.

Rijiju said, "The Leader of the Opposition cannot make such serious, unverified statements. This concerns the relationship between two countries. He is making baseless allegations about our Prime Minister's invitation.
