BJP’s 2 nd list has 12 names, folk singer Maithili Thakur to contest from Alinagar

Her name was among 12 candidates in the second list released by the BJP on Wednesday.

The BJP has fielded new candidates in nine out of the 12 Assembly constituencies named in the second list.

Making a strategic move, the BJP has banked on Maithili Thakur’s popularity to leverage her following among young people and bolster its appeal in the Mithilanchal region, where Alinagar has emerged as a key battleground seat.

“I am very impressed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. I am here to serve society and contribute to the development of Bihar,” said Thakur, who is barely 25, after her induction on Tuesday. She also expressed her intent to promote Maithili traditions through public service.

Speaking about her roots and ties to her homeland Bihar, the singer described herself as the “daughter of Mithila,” a region in the state.

“My roots and identity remain tied to my homeland. My soul resides in Mithila,” she added.
