Youth, experiences boost SM’s growth
Manila Bulletin
|August 22, 2025
SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), the flagship of the Sy family’s business group, is strengthening its entertainment ecosystem across its portfolio to be more appealing and in tune with the preferences of the new generation of Filipino consumers.
“At SM, we recognize the younger generation’s growing preference for experiences, and this shift opens new opportunities for growth across our businesses,” said SMIC President Frederic C. DyBuncio.
He noted that, “By listening closely to our customers, we are broadening our entertainment offerings to strengthen engagement and create long-term value across the SM ecosystem.”
The group’s presence in entertainment extends beyond SM Prime Holdings Inc.’s malls and arenas. Through Singapore-based SMIC SG Holdings Pte. Ltd., SM became the first Philippine company to invest in Klook, an Asia-based travel and experiences platform.
It has a one-stop logistics solutions provider, 2GO, which features karaoke lounges and video arcades in its vessels, a rare feature in inter-island travel. BDO Unibank Inc. and China Banking Corp. (Chinabank) also integrate lifestyle and travel-related rewards into customer programs.
