This man is performing many signs

The signs (miracles) performed by Jesus in John's Gospel are meant for people to believe and, in believing, have life in the name of Jesus (20:30-31).

However, today's Gospel passage narrates that the many signs which Jesus has performed cause an alarm among those in power, like the Pharisees and the chief priests. They convene the Sanhedrin, resulting to a plan of putting Jesus to death.

The signs that are intended for salvation become a threat to the powers that be. But for the followers of Jesus, the signs are God's way of inviting people to enter into the mystery of salvation.
