BIR files 711.3-M tax evasion charges vs 75 vape traders, retailers

Manila Bulletin

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed with the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Manila and various prosecutor's offices nationwide P711.3-million tax evasion charges against 75 retailers for alleged illicit trading of vaporized nicotine and non-nicotine products.

- By JEFFREY DAMICOG

The filing of the charges at the DOJ in Manila was led by BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. who told journalists that the filing of complaints was done simultaneously nationwide.

"Sabay-sabay po tayo nagsampa ng kaso mula Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao (We simultaneously filed cases in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao)," Lumagui said.

He also said that those charged were those who were raided by the BIR last year and were found selling vape products that have no BIR stamps which showed they did not pay excise taxes.
