Año stays; BI chief under probe

President Marcos has decided to keep National Security Adviser Eduard Año, even as he also ordered an investigation into allegations of corruption against Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Joel Viado.

In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro disclosed that Marcos decided to keep Año, who has reportedly been dealing with health issues of late, at the National Security Council (NSC), and “may continue to hold on to his position until he can”.

"Ayon po sa ating Pangulo (According to our President) and I quote: Secretary Año has been having to deal with health issues ever since the time of the pandemic. However, he has kindly agreed to stay on in the NSC as he feels," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Tuesday, June 10.

"And the President agrees that he can continue to do the fine job he has been doing.

Maaaring manatili si Secretary Año hangga’t kakayanin po ng kanyang kalusugan (Secretary Año can stay until his health permits)," Castro added.
