HOW THE GLAZERS COULD NOW SELL THE CLUB

UNITED may be set to change hands following reports minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe could lose his stake in the club.

The update comes after it emerged mechanisms are in place that could force the Ineos billionaire to sell his shares in United.

Ratcliffe, 72, won the bidding war against Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani to invest in the Red Devils towards the back end of 2023. But whereas Sheikh Jassim wanted to purchase all of the Glazer family's shares in the club for £5.5billion, Ratcliffe succeeded with his offer of around £1.3bn for a 27.7 per cent stake.

The British chemical tycoon later increased his stake to 28.9pc following a £79.2m cash injection in December 2024. However, the club's prospects have failed to improve despite Ineos taking control of day-to-day operations at Old Trafford.

And a 'drag-along clause' that became active in the summer means Ratcliffe and his team could be ousted.

A drag-along clause is a rule in a company's shareholder agreement that lets majority owners 'drag along' minority owners into selling their shares if the majority decides to sell the company.
