Prestbury close gap between themselves and safety
Macclesfield Express
|July 16, 2025
PRESTBURY first eleven travelled to Holmes Chapel first on a warm day. Skipper George Brindley won the toss and decided to bat.
The Prestbury openers Muta Ramanathan and Sumon Ahmed got the innings under way putting 13 on in four overs, but Ramanathan fell for 2 LBW.
Mark Fahy joined Ahmed but didn’t trouble the scores when he was caught for 0, 17 for 2.
Dan Woolf started with a couple of fours and the partnership took the Prestbury score on to 55 when Woolf was caught for 13. The scoring rate was good but losing wickets was the problem, so when new batsman Shaky Shimul was also caught for 7, it needed Will Worswick and Ahmed to develop a partnership.
They did just that, finding the boundary on several occasions.
Ahmed reached his 50 and the pair reached 141 off 29 overs with a 220 plus total on the cards.
However, Worswick was caught for 37 - again an innings developing but cut short.
At 173, Prestbury lost the wicket of Ahmed for a fine 75 and the Prestbury innings fell apart with five wickets falling for nine runs.
Brindley hit 24, but the tail didn't wag. So 182 all out in 40th over.
Holmes Chapel started well with 25 off six overs but Prestbury opening bowler JP Roets had Helyer LBW for 13.
