Cheshire on shortlist for England Awards
Macclesfield Express
|April 23, 2025
THERE was a full house of County officials from across England who enjoyed the England Golf Awards 2025 Evening at the excellent Hilton Hotel in Manchester.
Cheshire Golf was well represented by officials, players and club members with the county being nominated in the top three for County of the Year with Lancashire and Hampshire.
Lancashire were the winners but Cheshire can be very proud of making it into the shortlist.
Cheshire had also been nominated in several other categories in the top three.
They were Facility of the Year: Need Golf Centre, Sustainability: Bidston GC, Volunteer of the Year: Jo Taylor Cheadle GC and Peter McLeod Bidston GC, Women and Girls Trailblazer: Hannah Morrison Mellor GC, Performance of the Year: England Girls Team led by John Watson of Styal GC.
Cheshire were disappointed that none of their entries were the winners of their category but were proud that the work, talent and effort put in by all the candidates had taken them to this level, a feeling echoed by Cheshire President John Heggarty and his fellow board members.
The Winter League Trophy at Avro was won by Steve Jones, one more than Paul Barnes and Ian Anderson.
A ladies Stableford at Avro was won by Wendy Roberts 42 from Jane Tarr and Catrin Barnes, both 40.
The 9-hole winner was Andrea Brandwood 20 from Lisa Hunter 17.
Macclesfield ladies played a very competitive team match 'Youth v Experience!
