Butcher's special 80th anniversary
Macclesfield Express
|May 14, 2025
A BUTCHER'S shop set up by a soldier returning from World War II has marked its 80th birthday in the same week as VE Day anniversary celebrations.
Staff at family-run Spearings, now on Park Green, Macclesfield, decorated the store with bunting for the occasion and gave the 80th customer on Thursday, May 8, a voucher and bag.
The business was set up in May 1945 when Denis William (DW) Spearing came home from war having served in the elite Airborne Division parachuted into France as part of the Red Berets and Glider Units.
He opened a store on Cross Street, which his wife Margaret contributed £100 in savings from her work at the Co-op shoe shop.
