Bar is high for new LAFC coach Dos Santos as club opens against Cup champions

SON HEUNG-MIN energized the LAFC attack last season and created a stir with a stunning goal in the conference semifinals.
LAFC'S 2025 season seemed like a book with too many chapters.
The team competed in practically everything: a one-game playoff against América for a spot in the Club World Cup, the MLS regular season, the Leagues Cup, the CONCACAF Champions League and the MLS playoffs. That’s 47 games during various tournaments.
There were high-profile signings and important departures. The addition of world champion Olivier Giroud ended up being a failure at the MLS level, while Polish star Mateusz Bogusz emigrated to Mexican soccer, leaving a tremendous void in the Los Angeles team's attack.
There were contrasting and bittersweet moments, such as the unforgettable victory over América at BMO Stadium to qualify for the Club World Cup, followed by the resounding failure in that tournament. There was also the elimination from the CONCACAF Champions League at the hands of Inter Miami. And there was Son Heung-min’s stunning goal in the conference semifinals against Vancouver in the dying seconds, which left the feeling that coach Steve Cherundolo’s team could have done more.
