Workers gave up their days off to help after Reds parade incident

RAIL staff came in on their days off to crew trains laid on to get people away from the horrifying scenes at the end of the Liverpool FC title parade, the boss of Merseyrail has revealed.

Emergency services were called to Water Street in Liverpool city centre at around 6pm on Monday, May 26 after celebrations were beginning to die down.

Hospital treatment was provided to 50 people after they were struck by a Ford Galaxy. It was revealed earlier this month how some were still under the care of medical professionals almost four weeks on, including police officers.

Neil Grabham, Merseyrail managing director, told a panel of councilors how staff from across the train provider gave up their days off to support efforts to get fans away from the horror that unfolded. Mr Grabham spoke of his pride at the way Merseyrail supported the city on that day.
