PLANS to upgrade a Merseyrail station and add a shop onto its site have been approved.

It was announced earlier this year that the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) would look to pump money into upgrading Moorfields station in the city centre, which will be the first phase of a wider project aiming to transform it.

A planning application for the upgrades was submitted to Liverpool City Council in July. The application included plans to carry out external alterations to Moorfields, including new improved access, cycle storage and a retail unit.
