OWEN WILSON TALKS TO YOLANTHE FAWEHINMI ABOUT HIS NEW FEEL-GOOD COMEDY FOLLOWING A FAILED GOLF PRO WHO MENTORS A YOUNG PRODIGY
-
MOVE over Ted Lasso, here’s a new sporting series to steal your thunder.
Stick is a heartfelt, feel-good comedy set within the world of golf.
Even those who are not keen on the sport may be tempted to watch due to the fact it features Owen Wilson. He plays Pryce Cahill, a once promising pro golf star whose career crashed and burned prematurely 20 years ago. Now Pryce’s marriage is failing and he’s about to lose his job at a sporting goods store.
However, there may be hope on the horizon thanks to Santi, a 17-year-old golf prodigy he takes under his wing.
Even though his father was a great golfer and both his brothers played the game, Owen admits he had very little golfing experience.
When he was a child, there were only right-handed clubs available at golf courses - the 56-year-old is left-handed - so he never picked it up.
But when it came to performing the golfing scenes in Stick, which he also executive produced, the Wedding Crashers star was committed to learning as much as possible.
He took lessons and played every day, for over a year.
The ensemble cast includes Peter Dager as Santi, stand-up comedian and podcaster Marc Maron, 61, as Mitts, and Mexican actress Mariana Treviño, 47, as Santi’s mother Elena.
Lilli Kay, 29, stars as Santi’s caddy Zero, and Judy Greer, 49, is Pryce’s ex-wife Amber-Linn.
Here The Royal Tenenbaums star Owen talks about learning getting into the swing to play a golfer and his on-screen relationships with his co-stars on the Apple TV+ show.
What was it like learning to play golf for this series?
