Search for cash to save lake

A MERSEYSIDE council will look for millions of pounds from outside sources to fund major works needed to save a town’s “treasure”.

West Kirby's marine lake needs repairs to its outer wall. This will involve emptying the lake, and dredging the 70,000 cubic metres of sand and silt at the bottom.

The council has been told if it does nothing, large areas of the lake could become unusable.

Its popular walkway may also have to be closed.

However the council has also been told the wall is in no immediate danger of being lost.
