Memorable tales of unique Grand Old Lady
Liverpool Echo
|May 01, 2025
THERE is no place on earth like Goodison Park. She is unique.
The Grand Old Lady, as Everton Football Club's longest official residence became affectionately known, is an atmospheric sporting cathedral. She has played a pivotal part in millions of lives.
England's first purpose built football stadium, she has staged more top-flight matches than any other football ground. She was the first club ground to host an FA Cup final, she was the first stadium to boast four sides with two-tier stands, the first to have a three tiered stand, the first to see programmes sold to spectators and the first to install both dugouts and undersoil heating.
But she's been versatile, too.
