Jobs threat as factory to cut 50 roles

WORKERS at one of Merseyside's most famous factories are facing the grim prospect of finding out their jobs are being cut before Christmas.

Unilever has announced that it is proposing to cut around 50 jobs from its factory in Port Sunlight, Wirral.

Global company Unilever makes cleaning products for brands such as Dove and Domestos.

While its headquarters are now in London, the company's historic home is in Wirral, where its Port Sunlight plant employs thousands.

Unilever was officially formed in 1929 and in 1951 the Port Sunlight site became its main research laboratory.
