From wartime to stardom, Stan's story is a real page-turner

JUST after Covid, Stan Boardman’s son Paul said: “Dad, you've been talking about it long enough, let's write your life story.”

From wartime to stardom, Stan's story is a real page-turner

Pete and Stan have known each other for decades

So at last, the book is out, and it’s called ‘My Life Story’

Having worked with Stan in panto, I know Paul must have had a difficult time working with his dad, his best friend, trying to pin him down to get the facts and figures out of him.

Also, Stan’s writing is illegible. Perhaps he should have been a doctor.

The book is very dark in the first few chapters, as they have written about 1941, the time Stan was in a bomb shelter during the war. His brother Tommy, aged six, was killed.

Talking to Stan in my podcast, I found he struggled to talk about the early days of the war.

Paul said his dad is only just coming to terms with his past, as it’s been locked away for many years.

Stan’s mum and the family were evacuated to Wrexham, but his mum decided to come back to Liverpool, saying ‘our city would never be bombed. It was, and thousands were killed.
